Saturated fatty acids (92 %) completely dominate.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Soap properties:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Hardness: strong (one of the hardest oils)<\/li>\n<li>Foam: large dense bubbles, fast foam<\/li>\n<li>Cleaning: high - the highest of all conventional oils<\/li>\n<li>Conditioning: low (without super fat dries)<\/li>\n<li>Ripening: relatively fast (4 weeks)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Recommended percentage:<\/strong> 20-35% in a normal recipe. For soap ideal \"pomace&#8220; olive oil (pomace) - 2 l for 200-350 CZK in Greek or Italian shops.<\/p>\n<p><strong>See detailed guide:<\/strong> <a href=\"\/en\/homemade-soap-recipes\/castile-soap-recipe\/\">Castile soap<\/a><\/p>\n<h3 id=\"repkovy-olej-brassica-napus\">Rapeseed oil (Brassica napus)<\/h3>\n<p>The most accessible and cheapest conditioning oil in the country. <strong>INCI name:<\/strong> Brassica Napus Seed Oil; in soap SODIUM RAPESEEDATE<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fatty acid profile:<\/strong> 62% oleic, 22% linoleic, 10% alpha-linolenic, 4% palmitic. Low in saturates.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Soap properties:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Hardness: low - without other hard oils the soap will remain soft<\/li>\n<li>Foam: fine, olive-like<\/li>\n<li>Conditioning: good (oleic acid)<\/li>\n<li>Maturing: medium-long<\/li>\n<li>Shelf life: medium (alpha-linolenic oxidizes)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Why it's interesting:<\/strong> Rapeseed oil is the most accessible and cheapest conditioning oil in the country - the price is 30-50 CZK\/l in every supermarket. As a direct substitute for some olive oil or as a base for palm-free recipes (olive oil is more expensive).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Recommended percentage:<\/strong> 10-40 %. Above 40%, the soap is difficult to solidify.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Availability:<\/strong> Excellent - the cheapest oil for soap. Every supermarket, 1 l for 35-60 CZK.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"slunecnicovy-olej-helianthus-annuus\">Sunflower oil (Helianthus annuus)<\/h3>\n<p>Sunflower oil is an excellent source of linoleic acid for increased conditioning. <strong>INCI name:<\/strong> Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil; in soap SODIUM SUNFLOWERSEEDATE<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fatty acid profile:<\/strong> 68% linoleic (omega-6), 19% oleic, 7% palmitic. Extremely high proportion of linoleic acid.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Soap properties:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Hardness: low<\/li>\n<li>Conditioning: very good - linoleic acid is sought after for the skin<\/li>\n<li>Shelf life: shorter (linoleic oxidizes faster than oleic)<\/li>\n<li>Foam: soft, silky<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>High Oleic Sunflower Oil:<\/strong> Another variety with 82% oleic acid and only 9% linoleic acid. Better durability, similar conditioning properties, more stable in soap. Can replace some olive oil in recipes at a fraction of the cost.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Recommended percentage:<\/strong> 10-30% (standard); High Oleic variant can be used up to 40%.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Availability:<\/strong> Excellent - every supermarket. Standard sunflower 1 l for 30-50 CZK. High Oleic in e-shops or health food.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"konopny-olej-cannabis-sativa\">Hemp oil (Cannabis sativa)<\/h3>\n<p>Hemp oil has an ideal omega-3:omega-6 ratio for the skin. <strong>INCI name:<\/strong> Cannabis Sativa Seed Oil; in soap SODIUM HEMP SEEDATE<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fatty acid profile:<\/strong> 57% linoleic (omega-6), 20% alpha-linolenic (omega-3), 12% oleic. Ideal ratio omega-6:omega-3 = 3:1 (recommended for skin).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Soap properties:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Hardness: low<\/li>\n<li>Conditioning: excellent, declared compatibility with skin sebum<\/li>\n<li>Colour: slightly greenish (chlorophyll) - transfers to soap<\/li>\n<li>Shelf life: shorter due to high polyunsaturated acid content<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Popularity:<\/strong> Trendy ingredient in natural cosmetics thanks to its omega-3 content and \"CBD skincare\" wool (hemp oil does not contain CBD, but the fatty acid profile is truly exceptional).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Recommended percentage:<\/strong> 5-20 %. More = shorter shelf life and too green soap.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Availability:<\/strong> Okay. Health food, DM, e-shops. 100 ml for 80-150 CZK.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"lneny-olej-linum-usitatissimum\">Linseed oil (Linum usitatissimum)<\/h3>\n<p>Flaxseed oil has the highest omega-3 content but the shortest shelf life. <strong>INCI name:<\/strong> Linum Usitatissimum (Linseed) Seed Oil; in soap SODIUM LINSEEDATE<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fatty acid profile:<\/strong> 53% alpha-linolenic (omega-3!), 17% oleic, 14% linoleic. The highest omega-3 content of all conventional oils.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Soap properties:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Conditioning: very good<\/li>\n<li>Durability: the shortest of all oils - oxidizes very quickly<\/li>\n<li>Use in soap: limited just for durability<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Why add it?<\/strong> Few - only 5-8% for contribution to the fatty acid profile. More causes rancidity of soap within 6-12 months.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Availability:<\/strong> Okay. Health food, e-shops. 500 ml for 100-180 CZK.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"avokadovy-olej-persea-gratissima\">Avocado oil (Persea gratissima)<\/h3>\n<p>Avocado oil is a source of chlorophyll and vitamins for soap. <strong>INCI name:<\/strong> Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil; in soap SODIUM AVOCADOATE<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fatty acid profile:<\/strong> 68% oil, 17% palmitic, 12% linoleic.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Soap properties:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Conditioning: excellent - comparable to olive<\/li>\n<li>Hardness: medium-low<\/li>\n<li>Vitamin contribution: the unsaponifiable fraction (1-2%) contains vitamin E, sterols, chlorophyll<\/li>\n<li>Color: green or dark green (chlorophyll) - soap will be green, will lighten after maturation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Recommended percentage:<\/strong> 10-30 %.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Availability:<\/strong> Okay. Health food, DM, cosmetics e-shops. 100 ml for 100-200 CZK.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"kakaove-maslo-theobroma-cacao\">Cocoa butter (Theobroma cacao)<\/h3>\n<p>Cocoa butter adds hardness and a luxurious chocolate aroma. <strong>INCI name:<\/strong> Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Seed Butter; in soap SODIUM COCOA BUTTERATE<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fatty acid profile:<\/strong> 35% stearic, 26% palmitic, 35% oil.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Soap properties:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Hardness: excellent - high stearic acid content<\/li>\n<li>Creamy foam: very good (stearic acid)<\/li>\n<li>Maturing: relatively fast<\/li>\n<li>Aroma: pleasant chocolate aroma (raw cocoa butter)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Melting point:<\/strong> 34-38 \u00b0C - melts to the touch of the skin, which is why it is popular in cosmetics.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Recommended percentage:<\/strong> 5-20 %. More = soap may be brittle or crack.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Availability:<\/strong> Good. E-shops, health food, DM (drugstore coconut product). 100 g for 60-150 CZK.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"sea-maslo-vitellaria-paradoxa\">Shea butter (Vitellaria paradoxa)<\/h3>\n<p>Shea butter is a source of unsaponifiable substances with a high concentration of conditioning ingredients. <strong>INCI name:<\/strong> Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter; in soap SODIUM SHEA BUTTERATE<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fatty acid profile:<\/strong> 43% stearic, 46% oleic, 5% palmitic.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Soap properties:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Hardness: good<\/li>\n<li>Conditioning: excellent - the unsaponifiable fraction (5-11% - very high!) contains shea substances, triterpenes and vitamin E<\/li>\n<li>Durability: good (combination of stearic + oil)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>A special feature of shea butter:<\/strong> The huge proportion of the non-soapable fraction (5-11%) means that a large proportion of the conditioning agents survive saponification and remain in the soap. This is why shea butter in soap really does condition - not just in theory.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Recommended percentage:<\/strong> 5-30 %.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Availability:<\/strong> Excellent. DM, Rossmann, health food, e-shops. 100 g for 80-200 CZK.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"ricinovy-olej-ricinus-communis\">Castor oil (Ricinus communis)<\/h3>\n<p>Castor oil is unique for its ability to form a thick foam. <strong>INCI name:<\/strong> Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil; in soap SODIUM RICINOLEATE<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fatty acid profile:<\/strong> 90% ricinoleic acid (C18:1 with hydroxy group).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Soap properties:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Foaminess: exceptional - ricinoleic acid is the only unsaturated acid capable of forming a thick, stable foam<\/li>\n<li>Conditioning: good<\/li>\n<li>Hardness: reduces hardness (too much castor = soft soap)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Indispensable in the recipe:<\/strong> Even 5% castor oil will significantly improve the foam and density of the foam. It is the \"secret ingredient&#8220; of professionals.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Recommended percentage:<\/strong> 5-10 %.
